| Ann studied illustration to degree level,
developing a style based on mixed media, painting and photographic
constructions. After graduating she worked for over ten years as a picture
editor and picture researcher for photographic archives, picture
agencies, magazines and newspapers before feeling the need to start
making things again. She began to study ceramics in 2005 and found that her illustration
background informed a spontaneous and painterly approach to markmaking.
She uses painting and printmaking techniques to create the surfaces of
her pots, rather than relying on the decorative qualities of glazes.
Her work is a combination of tightly controlled techniques and free,
loose actions that encourage chance events which produce effects
echoing the processes of nature that inspire the work.
She set up her first studio in 2006 at the well-known 401 And a Half
Studios in SW8, London. She has exhibited her work in London and the
rest of the UK.
She now lives and works in Bedfordshire.
