city-centre chapel
Project to advertise the services run at Mill Hill Unitarian chapel, Leeds, on cross platform social media.
The primary aims were to communicate important practical details of the chapel services, to serve as a reminder "nudge" and an ongoing social media presence to existing chapel users and to create an appealing identity to newcomers.
Unitarianism has liberal Christian roots and as a denomination encourages individual interpretations of spirituality. Some members of the community at Mill Hill identify as Christians, others as pagans or atheists or simply as individuals on a spiritual journey. The community is predominantly young. So it was clear that using "traditional" religious or church imagery would not be appropriate.
I chose imagery and a visual style that was fresh, clear and bright. I used images of the natural world to generate concepts and themes. I developed a consistent overall visual identity, but within this identity I used slightly different visual languages for the two different services that run at the chapel every week -
- Sunday services largely take the format of a "traditional" church service with a regular community attending.
- Wednesday services are short meditations aimed at city-centre workers seeking some peace in their lunch break.
Imagery for the Sunday services suggested feelings of COMMUNITY, CONNECTION, LOVE and GROWTH
Imagery for the Wednesday lunchtime meditations was chosen to suggest PEACE, QUIETNESS, FOCUS and CALM.
I used a Crello template for the design with use of consistent typofaces and creation of a style sheet to allow potential for a volunteer or employee at the organisation to take over content production in the future.
I used free stock imagery from Pixabay and Unsplash.
Posts were optimised for Instagram, Facebook and Twitter (pictured are the Instagram versions).
